Hardwood flooring is easily one of the most popular flooring types available today. As popular as it is, though, you may still have a few questions. Take a look at four of the most common below.
I selected my flooring, but what was delivered looks a bit different than I remember the showroom samples looking. Why?
One thing about hardwood flooring is that there are no two pieces identical. Each type of wood will be similar in appearance of shade, types of markings, etc, but there may also be differences. Take oak, for instance. Oak is usually a lighter coloured wood that has knots in it and a darker grain throughout. Each piece of oak flooring will have its own distinct marks with knots in different places and possibly different patterns of the darker grain. It’s still oak, and it’s going to look amazing in your space, but it’s going to have its own personality too.
Do I need to wax my floors?
It used to be the norm to use wood floor wax, but in recent years, most flooring options have been finished with a polyurethane product that produces the same type of shine, but without all that waxing work. If you would rather wax, you can, but if your finish is has a polyurethane base, it’s best to avoid it.
What is the best way to clean my wood floor?
For every day cleaning, simply sweep or dust mop your floors. For deep cleaning you can mop using something made specifically for wood floors. This way you will be sure not to scratch, discolor, or harm your floor in any way.
How do I protect my wood floor from scratches?
Place small rugs or mats inside doors where people enter from outside. That way you will be trapping some of the small stones, pebbles, and dust particles which come inside on the bottoms of shoes. Make sure high heels are not worn to walk around the house. They can easily scratch the floor. Also, make sure the legs of chairs, tables, couches, and other furniture have wood floor protectors placed on them. These are inexpensive and will prevent your furniture from digging into the floor when it’s moved. Visit our Care and Maintenance Guide for more information.
