Every wooden floor is an investment that can last a lifetime, so it is worth making an effort when it comes to maintenance. Even though wooden flooring is durable and hard-wearing, it is important to remember that it’s a natural material. As such it is imperative that the condition of your oak floor should be maintained consistently after installation. This will ensure it retains its beauty and minimises the possibility of any dimensional movement of the boards.
Oak flooring care tips
- Avoid abrasions by using felt pads on the legs of chairs or other furniture items. Clean the pads to ensure they are grit-free and replace as often as is required. These pads don’t just protect the floor they also make moving furniture much easier during cleaning.
- Mop up spillages as soon as they happen. Do not allow moisture spills, water, or cleaning products to sit on the surface for any length of time.
- Use rugs in heavy traffic locations like door entries or kitchens and where spills are most likely to occur. Never lay damp rugs on the floor and be aware that if you have under floor heating the area beneath a rug can overheat.
- If you are moving appliances or heavy items, place a blanket beneath the item to protect the floor from scratches and dents. Also ensure that any service personnel or delivery people do the same.
